I set myself a real chore when I started the lighting plan for our small house. It has been months and I am still dry washing my hands and second guessing my selections. What I am NOT nervous about is our budget. It is low, and I mean low but knowing that I can meet it fills me with pride and satisfaction.

$1000 is our budget for the whole house. This includes outdoor, kitchen, bathroom and, well, everything. I am not spending over $100 on any one light fixture anywhere. There are 26 fixtures total, mostly sconces but there is a pendant, some track lighting, flush mounts and a ceiling fan to boot. Here are a few of my favorites.

Having long been a fan of bell shades, I really love the unique shape of this sconce and how the bubbles will make it sparkle with lit. The added bonus of this sconce is that it can be used facing up or down depending on where you want the most light and which you prefer. Since we will be using them upstairs in the loft and our bedroom I will place them facing up to illuminate the ceiling and create a soft glow that will brighten the whole room since the ceiling will be white and reflect the light nicely. If I wanted more of a task light I would point them down. This sconce can handle up to a 60 watt bulb so I can get some really bright lighting.

These are our outdoor lights and I fell instantly in love with them. When I saw the price, I nearly jumped for joy. I could not believe these lights were under $200, let alone under $50. The scale is nice. Making a bold statement on the porches with larger light fixtures makes a house look very impressive and makes a stylish welcome to guest and home owner’s alike. I have noticed some of my favorite houses from Pinterest have large porch lights and they are icing on the cake.

This pendant has been on my mind since the IKEA catalog first came out in July. I love the brass and black combo and the cord is a great detail. This will hang over my kitchen sink to create task lighting for washing up and also serve as kitchen jewelry. The cord extends a long way which means I can hang it at any height I need and it can accommodate a bright bulb if needed. At $39.99 I would be a fool not to find a place for it.

I’ll be glad to share my complete budget once the lighting has all been installed and is good to go. I would hate to post one number only to have it jump because I forgot incidentals or something was out of stock.
